How COVID-19 is Impacting WSIB’s Day-To-Day Operations

Due to the spread of COVID-19, WSIB has made the decision to close their offices to the public. Here is some additional information about changes to their day-to-day operations:

WSIB Appeals: Appeal Coordinators are reaching out to everyone who had a previously scheduled in-person appeal hearing with three options:

  • hearing via teleconference
  • hearing in writing
  • postpone until in-person hearings resume
  • Return to Work: Return to Work Specialists will not be visiting workplaces until further notice.

Loss of Earnings Benefits: The WSIB is continuing to pay all wage-loss benefits and have ensured all Loss of Earning (LOE) benefits are up to date. They also have staff in place to help manage any new claims.

Claim-Related Appointments: WSIB has posted the following statement regarding claim-related appointments.

“We understand that people may not be able to attend, or may be uncomfortable attending, claim-related appointments. If you are unable to attend an appointment, please cancel it directly with the applicable person or organization. You do not need to contact your adjudicator/case manager to let them know. Your decision to avoid an appointment will not affect your entitlement to benefits or services.

If you are planning to attend a scheduled appointment, we suggest you call ahead to confirm or determine if a virtual option is available.”
